Make Some Time to Be a Hero for YOU by Casey Demchak, copywriting expert

I hope June is going well for you as the weather warms up and we really swing into summer.

If your inbox and newsfeeds look anything like mine, you’re being slammed with messages about who you’re supposed to help and support when it comes to race relations, the police, politicians, social distancing, and wearing masks or not wearing masks. It’s a long list!

I want to emphasize that I believe all of these messages are important.

However, given what’s going on in our culture and the strain it’s probably putting on you, I decided to take a break from my writing tips this week to offer a slightly different perspective on things.

In short, I want to give you a big permission slip to put yourself first this week and do something heroic for YOU!

What inspired me to make this week’s video is the message you’re given by airline stewardesses (back when we used to fly) about what you should do in the event of a loss of air pressure in the cabin.

You know, the story of what to do when the little yellow mask pops down in front of your face.

This will make more sense when you watch this week’s video, which I encourage you to do.

Secure YOUR Mask First

This week’s video is inspired by the “wear-a-mask” scenario given to you by airline stewardesses prior to airline flights. In short, you’re told that in the event there is a loss of cabin pressure, a yellow mask will pop down.

You’re then told to secure your mask and make sure you’re breathing properly before you try to help your kids or follow passengers. The point being, if you’re not getting air and you can’t breathe, you’re not going to be of much help to others.

Put simply, sometimes to be a hero for others you have to be a hero for yourself first. That’s what this week’s video is about – being a hero for YOU first so you are in a stronger position to help others.

I think this is important because in a figurative sense, our culture has certainly had a loss in cabin pressure.

I expand on this point further in this week’s video, so I urge you to watch it. And most important, I encourage you to be a little selfish this week and think of at least one way you can be a hero for YOU!

Until next week, take action and make things happen!
