Increase sales by offering special bonuses for a limited time

When I write core marketing messages for authors, I am always asked if I know any book marketing strategies that can be used to increase sales.

This week’s post is about one of the strategies I always share with authors, and it works equally as well if you’re selling online programs.

I always tie this book marketing strategy into a little personal story.

I love movies. That’s why I went to film school in Los Angeles and spent my 20’s working part time as a story analyst while pursuing a screenwriting career.

My favorite movie? The Godfather. I’ve watched it dozens of times and my favorite line from the film is, “I’m gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse.”

I recommend that you have this line in mind when you write “special offer” messages that can be used in e-blasts, website sales pages, and other content related to marketing your book.

Five Essential Elements

Here are five essential elements to writing strong special-offer marketing messages for your book:

  1. Include a free or discounted bonus
  2. Make your offer available for a limited time (creates urgency)
  3. Promote benefits with action-oriented bullets
  4. Use an endorsement quote if you have one
  5. Place a dollar value on bonus offers if possible
