How to Write

I’ve been very busy writing a lot of book marketing copy for authors these last few weeks. As I engage with them the number one request I hear when writing their book marketing copy is this:

“Hey Casey, I need you to work your magic.”

I am flattered when authors refer to my copywriting as “magic.” I’m not sure it is, but I do know this much: Unlike most magicians I am more than happy to share how I do my book promotion copy magic trick.

What might surprise you about this magic trick is that it’s rather easy to perform. In fact, when you find out what it is and how to do it you’ll be able to put it to use immediately when writing your own book marketing copy.

I’ve named my magic trick “The Specific Trick” and you can find out how to master it in this week’s video.

Great Writing Is Rewriting Some More

In a nutshell, what makes your book marketing copy “magical” is when you make a commitment to revise and refine your writing until it feels as detailed and specific as you can make it.

This could involve extensive editing and multiple rounds of revisions, but the effort is well worth it if you want your book promotion copy to have a professional polish to it.

Put simply, good writing comes from rewriting, and great writing comes from rewriting some more.

The more you edit and refine your copy, the more detailed and specific it becomes. And this is exactly what you want to do when conveying the benefits of your book to potential readers.

Here is a simple example of how to do this, which I review in more detail in this week’s video:

(First draft)
Loving Heart, Healthy Body teaches you what you need to know to improve your eating habits for life.

(Second draft)
Loving Heart, Healthy Body shows you how to turn food into an enjoyable fuel that powers your hopes and dreams.

(Third draft – more detail)
Loving Heart, Healthy Body reveals proven insights you need to eat nutritious foods that make you “feel full” of confidence, energy, self-love, and inner peace.

I review this example in greater depth in this week’s video, so I urge you to watch it.

Until next week, take action and make things happen!
