One of the best investments I have made over the past two years was becoming a member of Author U, a really great organization ran by the amazing Judith Briles—a nationally-respected self-publishing superstar who I am proud to call a friend.
For the second straight year I was an exhibitor at the annual Author U Extravaganza. This year’s dynamic three-day event wrapped up on Saturday, May 3, and I really enjoyed it.
It was a great opportunity to meet with authors, make new connections and see out-of-town colleagues that I made friends with at last year’s Extravaganza. Some of the presentations that really jumped off the page for me were:
• Mark Coker – How to leverage Smashwords for e-book distribution
• Amber Ludwig – 6 steps to creating a killer web site
• Penny Sansevieri – Building a great author platform
• Stephanie Barko – Conducting virtual book tours
• Joel Comm – Developing an online information product empire
Joel Comm really tore it up. If you’re not familiar with him I encourage you to follow him online. His energy will lift you up and get you moving. His best line of the day was, “Don’t let people ‘should’ on you.”
If you want to self-publish your book, build a powerful online presence and save yourself years of trial and error by gaining insights from experts who’ve already blazed the trail—you absolutely should become part of Author U.
It was great speaking with so many ambitious authors about how to write better marketing content for their web site sales pages, media kits and back book covers.
It made me feel fantastic knowing so many talented people were interested in the expertise I was eager to share about sales writing and book marketing. Can’t wait until next year’s Author U Extravaganza!
If you got a knowledge boost from this post I encourage you to share it with your crowd!
